    FTP problems

While uploading or downloading large number of files (like uploading a complex script) It will only trandfer for a minute or so at a time before getting a "The connection failed due to an error or timeout".

I used to just live with the hassle., but now it's really becoming a pain when it takes me all day to upload a script.

Is there some security setting that is kicking in or somehting?

FTP stinks around here and on most hosts. Use WinSCP w/ SSH to upload your files and you will wonder why you ever bothers with FTP.

It is not security kicking in, it is FTP - a poor tool for large file transfers.

Aswell as WinSCP you can use smart ftp and mess around with the setting so it will not stop until it has uploaded what you wanted to upload.

I never have anyproblem witH FTP on my dedicated box or VPS, but i used to have this problem with sharred but not with JAG ( never had a shared / semi dedicated account with them or reseller account for that matter )

I discovered that CuteFTP was running passive even though I had changed it to port. I finally worked it out and it's running much better although it still kicks me sometimes, it doesn't do it near as often as it used to.

Thanks guys...I was getting the same error then took your advice and enabled SFTP via Filezilla. No more failures.
