okay the procedure is classified, how about the principle. What does it do for us?
The Tech of it might be, but a sales desc. is in order..
as I have been waiting for something like this for a long time...
Let me take a stab,
****** The may or may not be how the addon works *******
The Fail over addon mirrors your site on a second box, when your main server fails, all traffic it switched seamlessly to the secondary server...

what I dont know, and would like to, is if Database's are synced, or it is just a splash page....?????
Its a true failover , site, db , everything. You wont notice your site down unless all the boxes fail or the whole network went out. Next feature in the chain will be load balanced failovers, and then we hope to take it one step further later this year and failover network paired clusters in various datacenters.
This is more than just simple dns, splash pages, holder pages, etc.
Its ready to go right now, we're just waiting for new hardware nodes to arrive. Our test clusters arent what we would use for live, they are powerful enough.

So it only switches over if it actually goes down? What about if its slow, timeouts etc.?? My server hasnt went down for over 100 days, but it can be slow sometimes, and i do get timeouts now and again.
This is what i probably would want if it does what i said aboveNext feature in the chain will be load balanced failovers![]()
Hi:
Very interesting addon for those with high availability needs.
In my case, plain Gigadeal, with internal code and/or custom HMTL error pages I can cope with almost all problems except when httpd is down (not too common in our server, I must say). Are there any plans in the near future to provide a "lesser" failover addon, may be a custom static HTML 503 error page in another server where the petitions are balanced in case httpd is down in a given machine?
I think I would pay an extra monthly fee for that (say two or three dollars, plus dedicated IP if needed). May be some other customers would... I remember reading questions about a similar solution some months ago.

The technology is very simple. MySQL replication in master-master mode. Rest of the data (cpanel, email, web) are in mirror. When the main node goes down, the hot-standby will take over the IPs and become the main node. The maximum downtime is expected to be less than a minute for switch over.
So its only for when the servers actually go down? and not when there are timeouts/sloooow page loads (like i am experiencing now with my site as i type this!! - The page could not be found....Server uptime>> 09:48:43 up 152 days, 10:48, 1 user, load average: 0.66, 0.75, 1.02)
