Exclamation Question: Would semi-dedicated hosting be good for CPU hogs and high-trafficked web..

    web sites?

I'm thinking about running a site that is similar to gorillamask.net, doubleviking.com, ebaumsworld.com, etc, but I want to know if the semi-dedicated hosting is "Digg"-Proof and will be able to withstand that kind of traffic. Estimating traffic anywhere from 2,000-10,000 pageviews a day..

    Thx.

You will need to provide more info that that.....

manything things come in to pay above and beyond page views

The Database(mysql, sqlite etc), Programming Lang(php, perl. etc) how optimized the program is, type of files (ie streaming video) etc etc etc all come in to play..

a Poorly coded may not work, but a highly optimized on might....

I site with alot of video using FFMPEG may not work but if it is only html and images is may...

Well, I was gonna run WordPress on it, with various plug-ins of course. Most of which would just be linking (like GorillaMask.net does) but also have some of my own features. I'm no expert on hosting and running a web site, but I'm guessing it would be MySQL based.?

    Another question....

Would I be able to start off with just a standard shared hosting account and then upgrade to a semi-dedicated if I need it?

Yes you could start out on a standard shared hosting account, however, if you know your site is going to possibly use a lot of resources you might be better off starting on the SDX to avoid any issues if the site did start slowing down a standard shared server.

I have a SDX account. Got kicked off regular shared servers, as my site grew...

My production site gets 40,000-50,000 pageviews on average - sometimes less, sometimes more.

The 'record' was 865 visitors online (at one time) 100,000+ pageviews (in one day)...

If you can kill a SDX server, you're a better man than me!

Forget regular shared hosting! That's for Grannys with photo albums...

    EDIT

Here's a screeny, in case you think I'm BSing ya...

Hey how come (Lenon.com's) Alexa ranking is only at like 628,000? It gets a lot of traffic

    Unbelievable isn't it!

Maybe I checked my site 40 million times in the last 5 years...

Either that, or I'm the only guy in the world that's figured out how to fool Google. Thanks!

    LoL!

    What a bunch of boneheads!

    I dunno!

Maybe ppl in Iran (or whatever) don't shop at Amazon.com.

    Um...

Do you know how Alexa works?

lmao it's based on traffic, right?
lol and i can't access the site either (since I'm on a proxy server because of Hughesnet)

But still, even the 460,000 Alexa ranking in the U.S. is still way off

ah well, I think I'm gonna sign up for hosting tonight or tomorrow, just need to come up with a good domain name
