    Dooku CPU is melting.

    Hi,

My first post here and hello to everyone. Joined a couple of weeks ago everything been fine till today. Dooku CPU is over 6.5 and the server is extremely slow, both cpanel and ftp. Webpages seem ok though. Can't send support ticket so thought I would post here.

    Thanks
    M

Why can't you send a support ticket? Best contact sales and sort that out..

These four core beasts generally aren't slow at 6.5 load btw. There's probably some other cause..

    maj,

I am not sure how you are checking, but Dooku is running well and we have not seen any issues with it. Average load on dooku is low, I do not see any abnormal loads for the last 7 days either.
If/when you notice any trouble with it, please be sure to open a support ticket.

    Hi Veena,

On Sunday about 6 Oclock the CPU load went up to 8.5 for about 10 minutes and fluctuated about 6.5 for half an hour. FTP and Cpanel usage was impossible.

By the time i figured out the support system (new to this service), it had returned to optimal. You may wish to examine what activity was going on at that time. It was serving pages very well though considering it was FTP and cpanel which was mainly effected.

On sunday 27th, 6-6.30am server time, load was average 0.25 on our graphs. I am sure you are not referring to server time, either way, the only spike on sunday is for 15 minutes 4.30-4.45am EDT, load was around 7 which should not cause any performance degradation though.
Do not hesitate to open a support ticket if you see any performance issues again.

    Hrm...

Sorry for stating the obvious, but...

As was said, single-digit loads don't mean squat!

Actually, IMHO, it means the server is working, i.e. extremely low and/or extremely high numbers give me reason for pause, but 1-ish to 9-ish is sweet!

Personally, I would focus on the FTP/cPanel problem, not the server load.

Put another way, whatever is happening when the server load goes up is causing the problem - it's NOT the server load per se that's causing the problem!

You guys are getting the cart before the horse...

No, tickets are the only method to contact support. It is the only way to efficiently keep track of what's happening so that techs can provide the fastest possible service to all clients and so that management can track recurring issues and focus their attention at correcting or mitigating them.

I think I have worked this out. If you start a Cpanel backup it seems to put the server CPU under a lot more stress. I started one today and noticed cpu went from 1.5 to 9.4 within about 5 minutes of starting it. Even if these numbers don't mean anything in themselves site loading times decreased to over 3-5 seconds or not at all. Cpanel functionality crawled and this certainly must effect other dooku users. This backup was about 550 MB. I have found anything above 6 seems to have an impact. Just an observation but feel free to try it yourselves (Although not all at once!!!) I think if 2 or more users backup at the same time this may cause some serious CPU load problems.

I run daily backups for my customers and am thinking about changing to semi-weekly.

Without the backups running loads are between .05 and 1.30 once the backups hit loads jump to 3.0 - 5.0 and sometimes higher.

1 server is a dual 2.8ghz xeon with HT and the other is a dual 3.06ghz xeon with ht. Each has 1gb of ram and I'm think of experimenting with putting another gig of ram into one of the servers.
