    target of high volume

on server sinope, site has once again been .htaccess'd away and im guessing its due to high traffic (although well within our limits for the plan). i forgot the password for the jaguarpc.com client login and so has the site owner (i manage it), anyone have a suggestion?

i see the server is quite heavily used now with our site off, so i know that we are hardly the culprit.

    Code:
    sinope:~/www uptime
     14:36:00 up 122 days, 1:40, 1 user, load average: 18.79, 17.71, 13.09
also, check the "WA" state, its usually high like that...

    Code:
    Tasks: 178 total, 3 running, 173 sleeping, 0 stopped, 2 zombie
    Cpu(s): 11.0% us, 4.3% sy, 0.0% ni, 4.3% id, 80.2% wa, 0.2% hi, 0.0% si
    Mem: 2008864k total, 1923316k used, 85548k free, 119760k buffers
    Swap: 4192924k total, 22972k used, 4169952k free, 1165396k cached

The site owner had best get himself a client area password again asap. There's a lost password link on the client login page. If that fails him, he can contact JagPC sales for it. He can then work on this via the ticket system (or can have you do that if he chooses to share the password). Good luck with it!

Observations on high resource usage (not pointing fingers, just going by your own guess):
    - If there's a problem like that on a server, it's quite normal that there's a hand full of sites involved. It takes quite a lot to bring these beasts of servers to their knees. So they may well be looking at other sites still too (and / or about to move a few to another server).
    - Are you refering to bandwith limits for your plan? Bandwith useage is usually not the problem. More often than not the culprits are a few elaborate or very inefficient steps somewhere in the scripts your site depends on. Depending on their purpose and your ability, you may well be able to sort these out. Otherwise it's probably time to upgrade.
