    nameserver help.

    I am trying to setup a private name server in the welcome email i got

    your domain ip is 69.73.156.5

    and the name server i should point to is
    Primary Server Hostname: ns.nocdirect.com
    Primary Server IP: 69.73.130.223
    Secondary Server Hostname: ns2.nocdirect.com
    Secondary Server IP: 69.73.180.70

    should i point
    ns1.sitename.com to 69.73.156.5
    ns2.sitename.com to 69.73.156.6

    or
    ns1.sitename.com to 69.73.130.223
    ns2.sitename.com to 69.73.180.70?

    which is correct.

    please help:P

    Shared / SDX accounts do not have private name servers. You will need to get Reseller Account and can request two IPs for your private name servers.

    Since this is in the Shared Forum I am going to assume your not on a VPS, if you are stop reading...

    You will need to point the ns names to the IP for the Name Servers JPC Operates not the IP of your account,

    Unless you have a reseller account that comes with "custom" name servers then you will need to get the IP's from JPC.

    BLAH BLAH BLAh, unless you have changes some security settings, I use to assign ns1 and ns2.myname back do the nocdirect ips, and it worked perfectly fine...

    i thought i could create private name servers with my registrar then use that to forward the dns o_O


    hmm hostgator allowed this. im so confused lol.

    If we change the IPs of our name servers, which we can for any reason, your ns will be broken. And yes, we do not need to notify anyone of that change because that does not concern anyone and that is whole point of using ns.

    You can do that technically but see my above response and watch out for that.
