Apache is down on argonaut.nocdirect.com
anyone noticed that?
it seems like apache dies and then its automatically restarted (probably by cPanel's chkservd process).

Hi;
Yes we noticed and started the apache service. We are already aware of the problem going on with the server argonaut.nocdirect.com. We are closely monitoring the server for any abusive script/users, it should be fixed permanently in a day or two.
Your patience and cooperation is highly appreciated.
Based on the tests i've done on my dedicated and VPS servers, i noticed that cPanel has a major problem in the reseller system.
Whenever a reseller creates a new hosted account via WHM, cPanel will force a shutdown and restart of the entire apache server, which means that at the same time every client on the server will get no service while apache restarts itself.
Instead of running "service httpd reload", cPanel runs "service httpd restart".
A "reload" will re-read the new configuration files and execute them without any loss in service, while a "restart" will completely shut down apache and restart it.
Since this is something in cPanel, i don't think there is much you can do.
PS:
This is why so many shared and reseller servers are having apache restarted so frequently, every time someone creates a new hosted account, apache is restarted, which could be VERY frequent in some servers.
Reload does the same thing and kills all apache children AFAIK.
Masood, it doesn't kill the main process, only children processes, which is a lot faster than restarting the entire thing. I did a few tests on mine and it appears to reload fast enough that HTTP requests don't seem to stop being answered.
hmm the server is still having problems:
1) apache is down again at frequent intervals
2) smtp is not working, it returns error: 451 Requested action aborted: local error in processing
