    Is a server restart allowed on semi-dedicated?

    Hi all,

    Is it allowed to restart the server myself on a semi-dedicated account?

    Case:
    I want to install APC (Alternative PHP Cache) after the install a restart is required.

    a. Is it allowed to do this myself using SSH or do I have to open a support ticket
    b. Is it allowed to install/run that program on a semi-dedicated account?

    thanks,
    Guy

    I'd suggest you ask support. I'm sure your not allowed to restart a semi dedicated server.

    No, of course you cannot just restart a shared server. Nor are you allowed to install any program that permanently resides in memory. (Nor needs a server be restarted just to start APC.) You'll have to take this up with support.

    However, as PHP opcode caching goes, they went with eAccelerator, so I doubt you can get APC too. Do you have a particular need for your cache to be APC?

    ah! thanks.

    @Wim
    Not necessarily. I am checking out eAccelerator now and I see it's enabled in my php.ini. So basicly I have nothing to do. I was not aware this is done by default. Thanks
