Cool Domain data transfer or DNS problem or something

    Hi,
Ive searched and found something similar but not quite, so here goes.

    Recently got a Semidedicated.
Im now wanting to transfer domains and data (not dns yet) over to jag.
When I go create the new domain it gives me an error saying the domain points to another dns and it cant create it. The site already exists and I want to transfer everything over and make sure it works before updating DNS. But CPanel gives me an error and wont let me create my domain so I can start transfering data.

    Any ideas? anyone?

Your situation is SOP - there's nothing wrong with your account, e.g. it's doing what it's supposed to do...

There ARE ways of getting around it, if you will.

In order to save a lot of 'keyboarding', here's a link that should help:

    http://www.jaguarpc.com/support/transfer.php

    Specifically...

In your welcome email, you will get a temporary link to access your new web site before anything goes live. You can view your site to make sure its working properly (graphics, web pages, links, etc...) by pointing your browser to the url provided in your setup email that contains your server ip and username. (for example: http://123.123.123.1/~USERNAME/ where 123.123.123.1 is replaced with the ip of your server)
If not, come on back, and we'll talk you through it.

    Thumbs up Ok..... but...

    Hi Vin, thanks for answering.

Not complaining, not at all... it had to have an explanation. Im patient, I know how everything works..

I had my tech ready to transfer all data, so I went to ticket system for faster answers.
And actually from what they wrote its not exactly like what the help file said (I had already read it).
Following instructions I was told to create a subdomain of the main account domain, notify them and THEN they would allow me to "multihost".
    Ill quote from the ticket:

    2008-09-04 / 15:31:08
    Hi,
To setup addon domain please create a subdomain from your CPanel and update us so that we multihost for you.
Please let us know if you need further assistance.

So aparently it was something I couldnt do myself.
Ive been around, used cpanel and others, its the first time Ive had to ask for permission to host other domains... jijijiji
Not complaining... just something I wasnt expecting.
    Thanks Vin,

    Juan Carlos

    That's cool, Juan!

I wasn't suggesting you were complaining - just wanted to allay any fears...

In the old days, you couldn't 'multihost' yourself. That is, you could set everything up, but Tech Support had to put the icing on the cake - so to speak - as they did in your case.

Now, you can do the whole enchilada yourself. I've done it several times without having to contact Tech Support - but you had a special need scenario - and it sounds like Tech Support followed through, as they always do.

    This place rocks!

    Welcome aboard!

They do those restrictions as a security precaution, to prevent DNS poisioning. Basically, if it wasn't there, there would be nothing to stop you from adding google.com or whatever and having that end up in JPC's DNS servers. Granted, the damage done by that would be minor, but it is still an issue.

I see support got you situated, though, so theirs not really anything more to discuss. Welcome to JPC. Support here rocks, as you're finding out already.
