Angry rori down for over an hour today

I'm a new customer, haven't even managed to move my files and update name servers yet and today rori crashed (kernel panic) and was down for over an hour.

I'm leaving my current host because of little server quirks like this. Seems like there is always something that causes them to go down for an hour or two every once and a while.

I figured with an advertised 100% uptime guarantee that these things wouldn't happen with JaugarPC. Is this sort of thing "normal"? Is there some fuzzy math used to calculate 100% or what?

    Hi blurbdev,

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused. We check and monitor our servers 24/7 to ensure the uptime. These kind of issues are rare specially for new servers like this, we continue to monitor and investigate such issues to make sure they are not repeated. We do offer 100% network uptime, for servers though our uptimes are pretty good but for non-failover its not always possible to have 100% uptime, but we are close to that on most of our servers. We apologize for the issue you have faced and appreciate your patience. Also if you are running some high availability site you may want to check our Failover sdx plans as well. Thank you.

Are there any actual statistics on server uptime? You say it's good, but compared to what? Is there any statistics on this?

We are sorry but we are not maintaining any uptime statistics at this time.

You can have your site monitored yourself. There are many companies offering such a service, some even for free. If you search this board, you'll find some excellent pointers.

FYI: many of us have the impression that servers tend to go through their worst in their first few weeks. Probably because of all the new account holders experimenting still, asking for changes in setup, etc., as well as the occasional spammer or other abuser slipping on and taking his toll before he gets noticed and tossed off again. So, don't judge the long term uptime just yet.
    Regards,

If it means anything, my VPS has a current uptime of 418 days.
