    Thumbs down Moving On...

I have been with Jag for about 3 years now and must say that up until the last couple of months was very happy. I signed on with you guys primarily b/c of one of your customer reps(Nick-no longer there) gave such outstanding service before I settled on you guys. I had been on regular shared hosting with another company for a few years and got tired of others on the server screwing things up so I decided on a semi-ded package from you guys. Cost was more but for the piece of mind of knowing that the server environment was smaller and since people were paying more they actually cared about their own sites.

I've had a few problems over the years but nothing major...until about a month and a half ago. Server response time on gold varied from fast to over 30 seconds. at any given time. I figured things would settle back down and it would be "business as usual". It continued like this for a few more days with nothing getting better.

On the 14th of Jan I had to upgrade the cart on my site. FTP was so slow it took almost 1 1/2 to upload mid size files. After it finally uploaded, the site/server was down off an on. I was paying someone to do this for me and b/c of the extra time it cost more $$. I opened a support tix and was told: "We have also suspended the account that was the major cause of this high load and notified the client." This did nothing.. I was then told that my account was among 3 that were causing high loads due to php processes and was given a list of processes my site was running. Not sure what the point of a list of processes my site is running would do as...

My site is small and avg. less than 5-700 visits a day. Ecommerce, no forums or intensive blogs or anything like that. The main reason I moved to semi-ded was to AVOID problems like BAD neighbors and SLOW response times. At any given time my site consumed an extremely SMALL amount of resources. As gold sits right now it is showing 98% full in the server stats. This is a sem-ded server that is oversold regardless of the amount of users I was told are on their(20). The general IP shows over 100 sites hosted on there.

I know very little about servers but decided to do a little digging. I found one of the issues and submitted this to support:
I've been monitor server load which is pretty steady at 3-4-which is already high-and spikes of 15+. That number should be around 1 or less. It should have 2 cpu's especially since its a semi ded server other wise what am I paying for?
Nicko:We are working on the load issues on the server. I looked at the specifications for the server and it has a Opteron 2210 which is a dual core processor. I did notice that the kernel had been mistakenly upgraded to a non-smp kernel which means it was not using one core.
I've fixed this issue and will be monitoring the server to see how it changes the load.

Now, shouldn't this have been something that was found out by YOU guys the FIRST time I submitted a tix? I know practically NOTHING about servers and was able to find that. I just feel like you guys don't care unless you complain, complain, complain and then point you in the direction of the problem. NickO was quick to fix it when I pointed it out, which I appreciated. HOWEVER, I shouldn't have been the one who figured this out. My job is to run my site and its your guys job to keep me and my site happy Even after this fix the site remained slow in comparison to 2 months ago and was told that if I wasn't happy I could move to a different server. Why should I move? If the server was working properly and enough resources were available as they should have been for a semi-ded, there shouldn't be any problems. Enough was enough.

I moved to a different host.

During the problems I had with you guys in January I lost about $1500 in sales based on customer complaints and a 5 year sales history showing me where sales SHOULD have been if the site was avail all the time at speeds that didn't piss people off. $30/month for this was not worth it. My site is now EXTREMELY fast, on a better server, and for half the $. The site is now making what it should again($) and the gold server STILL seems slow.

I don't want it to sound like I was never happy here cuz up untill a month and a half ago I was. If this had been taken care of quickly and completely I'd still be here- but a fix to the problem shouldn't be "we'll move you to another server". If this was just a hobby site or a forum that would be one thing. This site is my main income and, like I said, I estimate these issues cost me about $1500. When my sales decrease due to server issues it's time to go...

It was good while it lasted JAG...

    On encounters with the sirens

This thread reminds me of The Odyssey...

Odysseus was curious as to what the Sirens sounded like, so, on Circe's advice, he had all his sailors plug their ears with beeswax and tie him to the mast. He ordered his men to leave him tied to the mast, no matter how much he would beg. When he heard their beautiful song, he ordered the sailors to untie him but they bound him tighter. When they had passed out of earshot, Odysseus demonstrated with his frowns to be released (Odyssey XII, 39).
    LoL! You'll be back...

DSL: I know it was long-winded but it needed to be said. Have always found your opinions helpful but EXTREMELY biased in Jags favor. This makes you suspect. I have never seen someone who loves their host as much as you-for gods sake you have over 10k posts on a hosting forum!

For those of us who spend more time on our own websites as compared to these forums, uptime and response time are make or break deals. When I lose $$ b/c of server issues it's time to look for a new host.

I feel JAGs support has some issues and am apparently(judging by other posts) not the only one.

If it makes you feel better...

My ride is a slammed '98 Vic, with a '99 Si B16A2 swap:

How "suspect" can I be?!?!? If you'll notice, I'm a "White OP" on HT. I'm a long-standing, loyal, member over there too!

LoL! If you're nice to me, maybe I'll order a JagPC window decal from you...

Don't worry! As soon as you've had your fill of Annette (and company), you'll be back.

Good to see you did your homework-I didn't expect anything less from you. I have a few other sites with "Annette", regular shared hosting, and have never had problems linger and not be solved like this. Got a good deal from her on a SD package and she was helpful and responsive.

What's still bothers me is that you-or more importantly Jag- has yet to address the issues and concerns I was facing here.

I didn't want to leave but really had no choice as nothing was completely resolved. PHP response/parse(?) time is still bad on gold and it wasn't my job to troubleshoot server problems initially. I never said I wouldn't consider Jag in the future but it would be with caution b/c of this instance.

As far as the decal goes I'll send you one for free

    Heh!

I got pulled over last week -- supposedly because my tint was too dark. I have non-reflective super limo tint in the rear, mirror limo tint in the back windows, and light smoke on the driver/passenger windows -- all legal in Arizona.

LoL! The cop clamped a device on my passenger-side window and said, "Arizona statute allows 27 on front windows. You're measuring 29."

To make a long story short, I don't want to get busted for a front window decal.

    Are those things 50-state legal?!?!?

Yeah. I tend to be rather neurotic...

Really... nothing against Annette and Tracy, but... I don't gel well with chicks! In my experience, when you're dealing with women, there's serious negotiations every 28 days, you know?!?!?

Anyway, best of luck to you! See you (back here) soon...
