Ok, I do a lot of backend MySQL work on our shared hosting account. I'd say several times a day I get "Can't connect to MySQL database" errors. I also use PHPAdmin and while I don't get those errors, I get "Server has reset" or something like that many times.
So I decided to run a test. I have another website with another hosting company. I created simple like html files on both servers. I then setup my simple Windows based Website monitor to check both websites PLUS Yahoo & Google every 5 minutes. I left my computer on for about 48 hours. Jag had 73 "failures", my other host had "43" failures, and Google/Yahoo had 2. Presumably that was my DSL connection as those 2 times all 4 domains failed.
Does anyone know what causes this and whether this problem would be reduced with a Virtual Server? I'm running an E-Commerce site that is getting busier every month. Every customer probably accesses MySQL about 20 times (if not more) in course of a transaction, and it seems like the odds are good there would be a failure with the amount of interruptions I'm seeing.
At first I thought this was all on MY end, but adding Yahoo & Google to the test kind of proves that it isn't.
Thanks
