Thumbs down My review of Jags Failover Option. A Fail.

So I've been paying for a non existing service for sometime now (maybe for a year and some). The failover option which is an additional fee. There is supposedly a backup server which is suppose to kick in in the event of my site going down. Well after several occassions where my site has gone down and reps telling me they have resolved the issue (backup should of kicked in automatically)-IT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. I trusted Jag with this and they have failed.

so for those who are interested in this addon I would certainly think twice.

There seems to be confusion about how failover works and what is expected from such a service. The failover service is for hardware failure of the primary server. The secondary server does not kick in because a website is down or apache service is down on the primary server. The secondary mirrored server is available only in case of critical hardware failure and avoids total downtime of entire server for longer periods of time. I have added a small KB article explaining how this works:

Just a small typo to fix, while you're at it:

But yes, failover is not ideal hence the coming of the cloud. I'm sure it too has its limits but its an improvement over failover. It wont stop a service from failing or people doing things that take their site down, nothing can really fix those kinds of things except good ole monitoring and techs responding to fix those issues.
