Abhean Down and down and down again

On friday I was "identified" as using too many resources on abhean. Nothing above my normal daily use. But what ever.

Aparently its an index page of a blog that is getting hit hard or using too many resources.
First my account was suspended. Then in theory I was granted access so I could fix it. Except the "access" was not setup correctly. Then I was grantes access again but actually denied access. Then my IP changed, then it changed again, then I was granted access only to get a 403 error. And read this paragraph over and over and thats where Im at right now.

If im the only one getting access to that blog, or even Im the only one having access to my SDX, why is the server down repeatedly?

I dont care, Ill review the blog, change the theme, lighten it up what ever needs to be done. But first I need access (its been since friday and many tickets and not getting anywhere) to try to fix the blog. And second and most important, dont disable the whole sdx... I have other sites on there that are not a problem that need to be up.

I have a dinamic IP, so if the ticket takes several hours to get answered, I probably have a different IP by then.

Tried by phone to try to make things faster and they only told me it needed to be via ticket. And Im calling from El Salvador. Couldnt get things done via phone, and cant get things done via a slow ticket system.

And it doesnt even matter if its slow. Just do it right.
Read up on ticket #13351608 and youll see we're not getting anywhere with this.

Someone please help and get something done.

    Thanks,

    Juan Carlos

    Hi Juan ,

I am checking into your ticket now, the initial feedback from techs is that the server is stable now after your account was fully disabled. I will update your ticket soon after checking into this.

I'd suggest asking for access via an IP range (if one or a few can be identified) so your dynamic IP won't pose such an issue.
    Good luck

Hmm I dont have a range, it just changes. And since most visitors are from my country it would do much anyway... But Ill try to come up with a range.

SDX was reenabled, everything but the "offending" site. great, thanks.

But I still cant access the admin panel via web or ftp of the offending site... So doesnt do me much good.
This is exactly what ive been facing since friday.

Block the url, but let me enter so I can attempt to do something.

If you block the URL and dont let me in, we're not really doing much.

Juan , As I updated you in the ticket, the normal block using .htaccess is still resulting in enough hits to crash the server and thus a complete folder block was done temporarily to keep server up and running. We are checking it further and will update ticket accordingly.

    Are you tracking bots?!?!?

The last time my account (SDX) was taken down was because Bing (Microsoft) Search bots were hammering my sites mercilessly 24/7.

I banned Bing bots, and resource usage went back to normal.

As an aside, I have been contacted by Microsoft employees several times (via feedback) asking me to unblock their bots. They tell me how I'm missing out, by blocking their unruly bots - how to unblock them - blah, blah, blah. LoL! Bing can go to hell!

Anyway, just because your site(s) are using too many resources, and dragging the server down, doesn't mean it's YOUR fault. So, don't waste a lot of time looking within.

Many times, excessive resource use is because of external factors...

    Er...

Sorry for beating a dead horse, but are you running AdSense, by any chance?

Bing/Yahoo bots love to 'spy' on sites running Google AdSense...

    Hi Vin,

Yeah, im running adsense on all few sites on the sdx, but NOT on that specific blog.
Funny thing is that identified as the troublemaker was a specific page. Not a site, not a script, but a page.
I guess it could have been bad programming on the theme... Went back to the original theme and everything is aparently fine now.
    I hope so.

Is Abhean healthy? I have a low priority site there but I am about to host something more important. According to my mon.itor.us reports, it's been down over 20 times in over a month. Thanks

Yes the Abhean server is healthy and running fine. There have been some outages more than a week ago , however the root cause was found and fixed and server is stable now.

The issue I had a few days back, was aparently (cannot confirm this at 100%) due to one php page from one specific blog and Bing hitting it hard. This according to logs, and my own deduction, which cannot be trusted 100% since my server tech knowledge does not go into that. I reverted back to the default theme and problem solved. Now I have a default ugly site. :S

What I can say, is that Ive been on JaguarPC and on that Abhean server for about 3 or 4 years, and I am very gald and happy Im here and in that server. I consider it to be fast (enough) and cant say Ive had serious downtime.

From the admin panel you can see uptime for that server. Its always 100% or 99.7%. A little odd since this month also says that and I had that little problem.

I run several sites adding upto about 150k visitors a month. Runs fairly smooth. I would like to see a resource meter though. What I can use and where Im at. So I can add another site or host it elsewhere.

Being a managed server I would have expected a little more help identifing and fixing the problem. I was only given clues and files as to where the problem was, but no advise on how to fix it with out changing the site behavor or upgrading. But thats more JaguarPC and nothing to have to do with Abhean.

As of right now, I fully trust Abhean. Hope it stays that way. Dont want to jinx it.

    JC
