    osCommerce version

    Hi -

I have a client who saw my installed osCommerce shop, and liked the look of it .. wants to make some reptile care pages with similar look .. and will be adding a shop of his own...

so, the question he posed is:

Is what he saw (on my jaguarpc oscommerce shop) pretty much what he would get (in terms of look) if he downloads the current oscommerce release from oscommerc.org?

    Thanks..

    David

by the way, if you have the answer may I ask you to email it to me at david@qsdnet.com since the "reply notification" of this board has never worked for me .. I do have it checked.. but never get notified.. so if you can, please email. THANKS!!

Gee, what's the url of the osCommerce shop he was looking at? Then perhaps we can answer the question.

In the meantime, take a look at my site to see a sample of a fairly recent and lightly customized osCommerce shop. Not complete yet, though.

    It's http://www.oscommerce.org/
He DID post it, just missing the e.

You could always download the current version there and compare them.

If it's his site, it's 99% likely www.qsdnet.com as it says in the www link at the bottom of his post.

    Thanks!! for replies..

I installed the osCommerce from Jaguarpc control panel into http://www.qsdnet.com/shop/

To clarify my question: I am trying to find out what version of osCommerce gets installed when we as a jaguarpc customer install from the control panel?

I will check back here more often.. still not sure why email notification is not working.

Thanks again, hope to hear from someone.

    David

chances are there's a readme or install file (with no extension) in the directory it was installed to. read that, it'll more than likely have a version number.

I used the cpanel installation for the Outdoor Roamin' site. Most of the files are dated 3/2002 or thereabouts and would probably be osCommerce 2.1. If this is indeed the case, many of the more recent mods to osCommerce won't work with the auto-installed program. Version 2.1 also isn't supported any more.

I'd recommend downloading the osCommerce 2.2 MS1 version and installing it through the automated system. I've done this on a couple of sites and haven't had a problem. Easy to do if I can do it!

FWIW, I've looked but haven't ever been able to find a version number in the files.

definatly dont use 2.1, the code has basically been rewritten, 2.1 is like 2 YEARS old now, there are 100's of contributions of 2.2, the Checkout functions have been rewritten totally, Many Many Security issues have been addressed, and many other changes

I have made numbers OSC sites, for myself, and once I get the time to do another one I will,

DONT use the one that installes from Cpanel, is is missing a Few Features, I woudl definattly go with a downloaded version from the OSC site
