    Restoring a Damaged WWW Folder

I didn't read the FTP directions carefully enough and FTP'd our entire site to the root of our Jaguar web folder, rather than inside the www folder. In an effort to move the files, I somehow renamed the www folder to \www\public_html (it appears). File Manager and WS_FTP would then not allow me to rename the \www\public_html folder back to www.

What permissions should the www folder have? And is there any way to copy a list of files from one folder (the root) into another (www, presuming I can rename it properly)? I'd rather not need to delete everything and FTP again, but I can, if that's my only choice. Thanks for any help!

www is a symbolic link (pointer) to public_html. You cannot set permissions on a symlink, they inherit the permissions of the file/dir that they point to. The public_html directory (also in the root directory of your site) should have its permissions set to 755 (read write and execute for you, read and execute for group and world/all).

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, just ask.

    thanks for the information

Thank you for the information -- that's good to know. I ended up getting help from Jaguar support -- they reset the default folders with the correct permissions. But now I know how it should be. Thanks again.
