I'm moving over from a Windows/ASP host, so I've grown used to using Visual Interdev and FrontPage extensions to publish my web (I don't user FrontPage itself).

Some of my Linux buds have told me not to put FP Extensions on my own Linux servers at work, so I'm curious about the pros and cons of enabling them. Do they make big security holes in the site? Or is it just anti-Microsoft sentiment that turns these guy away from it?

I can live with vim, ssh, and ftp, but the extensions are pretty handy for managing a site from Interdev (if I could just figure out how to make gvim the default text editor in Interdev it would be even handier). Any thoughts?
