User authentication script

Hi there. I'm looking for some kind of user management script. This is a public website which will also have a private area which consists of many other "member" scripts (like Gallery, PhpBB, etc).

Can anyone recommend anything good for this? Preferably something in PHP which would also allow a user to go into their settings (which I define) to change them.

Not sure if it will help, but take a look at patUser at www.php-tools.de. I've been using their patTemplate for a while and it is every flexible and easy to use. I'd imagine patUser is the same.

There is also a recent tutorial on patUser available at www.devshed.com.
