    Python Support

Python is a great programming language, and I would really like to use it for my website.

There has been multiple requests for Python in the past (request1 , request2 , request3 ) but I have not seen any offical responses to this request.

Python is a very mature project, so there are minimal security risks associated with it. And it is so popular I am sure there are easy to install Binary distrobutions.

Also, they have mod_python which allows faster execution of python scripts.

So here is my request to please add support for the latest Python release.

    mod_python

Python is on the servers already. Mailman, the mailing list manager that CPanel uses, is a Python app. The version of python on my server (silicon) is 1.5.2. Its not the latest build, but it is something.

Poking around, I also found part of Python 2.2 (latest stable). In /usr/lib/pythin2.2/site-packages thee are several modules, but I couldn't find a Python 2.2 executable anywhere. I'm not sure why the libs are there if the executable isn't...

A lot of times, the software isn't upgraded because doing so breaks CPanel. I can't imagine that would be a problem in this case, but perhaps it is. If Cpanel/Mailman is really incompatible with Python 2.x (and with Mailman being open source, I can't imagine it would be), I can't see why they shouldn't be able to install the updated version as /usr/bin/python2.2 or something.

Have you opened a ticket asking about this? Generally they are pretty willing to accomodate requests if you put them in a ticket. Requests are less likely to be seen if they are only made in the forums.

I guess I will have to open a ticket. It just did not really seem like a support question, because I do not really have something that needs fixing, I just have a request.

I've made requests in tickets before and they've always been accomodating. In one case they've had to wait for the weekend when there was less server load, but they've always been as fast as possible in handling requests I've made in tickets.

Hey you are right, I opened a support ticket, and they already installed mod_python. Still no Python 2.2.2, but lets hope that is next.
