    Hacking? what is this??

    Hello,

I was checking out the results of a search I made from this forum when suddenly my Norton Firewall alerted of an intrusion attempt. I checked it out and to my surprise the attempt came from JaguarPC forum or that is what I thought.

After checking out the logs and everything it seems like if my computer tried to attack JaguarPC forum. Norton Firewall can track the IP of the attacker and when I tried to track it said that it cannot track because it isn't a real IP or domain and because it belongs to my machine. The IP was 127.0.0 which is localhost but I don't have apache or anything else installed on my computer so I don't know what's going on.

    Check out the images...

As I said, it seems like if someone is trying to hack into Jag forums from my computer. I'm very confused.

Ummm. ... Did you try to search something with the word '.htaccess' on the forums?

I had the same problem when I searched this forums for .htaccess.

Looks like for some reason Norton thinks you are trying to write an .htaccess file to the forum which, of course, could be used to gain some excellent permissions.

Sounds like either a Norton bug, or just that the post/get method along with the term ".htaccess" triggered the alert.

Just wondering, did you try the search without the dot? I would think that it would be just as effective...

    Good luck!

Yes, I tried without the dot but it didn't give me the same results.

I just wanted to know what was that all about, thanks.

Well, I didn't say it would be the same, I said it would be just as effective.

Glad it worked out for you.

Just out of curiousity: what Norton are you talking? I have Internet Security 2002 here (fully updated) and can't reproduce the issue.

Mine is the Internet Security 2003 version. I guess there are some slight changes in the configuration between those two versions.
