    how to delete stats information

Before I send off a support ticket for something that I might have missed, I was wondering if anyone knew how to delete the stats information.
I only really need the current months stats and my webspace is increasing all the time quite rapidly even though I'm not really uploading anything. (Several weeks ago it was 45mb now its 120mb)

Send in a support ticket, and ask them to remove the stats for the months you don't need. If you use awstats, tell them to delete the webalizer and analog. If you use analog, or webalizer, tell them to delete the other ones.

I heard this one before (maybe you could search for it?). It's not so much the actual data behind the stats, it's the nice html pages they generate when you look at them. The programs put this data in your temp folder (/tmp). You can just delete it, with the CPanel file manager for example.

You mean JagPC does not delete the stats automatically every day/week/month depending on your specifications?

Why would they have a reason to do that?

The ability to set how long you want to keep your access logs might be a nice feature for HostGUI. Same for auto-deleting the /tmp 'analysis' files generated. [No, they don't seem to delete themselves (or if they do, then apparently not a quick as people would like them to). ]

You could suggest this in the HostGUI forums, it would make a nice part of an 'account full -> cleanup' routine simular to what Windows throws at you when the hard drive is full.

Why wouldnt they? It seems only logical to me that something like this would be done automatically. Otherwise your log files could just keep building up and taking up your space. I know you can manually remove them but I believe that you shouldnt have to. Can this kind of thing be done via a cron-job?

Stats and logs are two totally different things. JPC automatically clears your logs every month, but the agragate information that the stats programs build from those logs is kept so that you can see trends in your site usage. I haven't had a problem with it (probably because I have a small site), but there have been several threads on these forums that indicate that these stats programs can eat away at your disk space with the data files they create.

Oops; I never realized the logs are cleared that quickly. I thought the cycle would be much longer (a year or so) or size based (log grows to for example 1MB and is cut then). I guess I'd like a setting for that in HostGUI

So if I don't use the stats program every month + leave the tmp files it creates be I won't be able to view more than a month back?

I just deleted the Awstats file for 10/2002 as a test - I haven't used it for months anyway. It indeed did not come back up. I do have data for every month though, even though I didn't access the program myself that often. So does CPanel auto-generate that just before the logs are deleted or something?

I believe that CPanel is supposed to generate each of the stats pages in your account every night, although, if you search a bit, you'll find that that's often not the case. I've never really paid much attention to the stats programs of the temp files that they create, so I don't know if deleting them would have an adverse effect. It seems to me if they're stored in tmp then the program should delete them as soon as its done with them, but I don't think I have to mention that CP is full of bugs...

Good point. In the past, I've seen that prevent one or another of the stat programs from starting up again, though I haven't noticed that problem of late. If you attempt this, I suggest leaving the folders intact, and clearing only the stat files under them.
