    More Mercury Problems?

    What else is new...

Nothing posted in the announcement section, but I've logged support tickets for the following in the last 24 hours:

    1. No disk usage statistics in CPanel

    2. No SSH access for at least the last 4 hours (was told it would be fixed "soon" more than 3 hours ago)

    3. Intermittent email problems - some mail getting through, most of it isn't. Horde is broken. Told it was an IMAP problem, but my POP client is not retrieving messages I know have been sent, and getting "connection refused" messages routinely.

    4. Cron jobs were deleted - again. It's happened twice before, evidently Jaguar's backup process needs to be examined. May have happened during one of the numerous Mercury rebuilds of late, I don't know exactly when they were deleted.

    5. Missing pages (404). I know I didn't delete them, but I can't check out what's going on, since SSH is broken. Just tried to check things out via FTP - broken as well.

Just checked HTTP - connection refused.

Guess Jaguar gave Mercury the holiday off.

I sent a ticket and they told me they are working on the server. That was of course about 3 hours ago and SSH was down since this morning. Then mysql went down and finally now everything is down.

It's like if Mercury was dying slowly and soon I'll be death too if this goes on and on.

What the *bleep* is wrong with this server? It used to be so reliable, but lately, it's beginning to wear my patience thin.

My patience is almost past thin to near broken. And it pains me, too because I like Aletia/Jaguar a lot. I've had some horrendus host experiences in the past, but for the last year and half, I've been pretty darn happy here. But this....is getting really old.

Nothing gets the "News and Updates" section updated faster than collective bitching in this forum. It's now been updated - yet another OS reinstallation.

Which will undoubtably be followed by another extended restore.

I planned on doing site work today, but since we'll probably be down for several more hours, I'll have to find something else productive to do. Perhaps I'll start by looking for another hosting provider...

I have been really REALLY patient with all of the problems here, but Mercury is getting rather annoying...

C'mon Greg et al... Disperse ye clients to existing machines, and rid thyself of that demon Mercury, retire the name and banish it's mention forever.

Then bring it back online after it's been stabilized (under a new name, of course)

It has been quote a yo-yo today...as much as it kills me, today is the first day I've considered looking for a different host.

Some things are back, lots of stuff is still broken (for me), tons of data missing.

However, with no updates, one has no idea whether to submit more tickets, or if we're waiting on restores.

Is it really too much to ask for a little more communication here? 12 hours of downtime, and one notice with incorrect details - it does not take 12 hours to perform an OS restore.

Is additional user data being restored? If so, when do you estimate it to be complete?

Come on, Jaguar - TALK TO US!

I think it's time to find someplace else.

What's the policy on terminating early. Do you get any money back at all? I paid a whole year upfront in...march, I believe...

    It's just not working here.

More updates would be very helpful. My control panel is back, but HTTP and email aren't, and phpMyAdmin says my database user and password are incorrect. I don't know if I should be filing tickets or just waiting around longer. At least the disk space meter actually works now, as does viewing file contents in the file manager (which was broken for a while).

My cpanel is working now, too...it wasn't about an hour ago. I also have no problem with FTP access.

Hmmm...as I write this http is back now, too, for now.....it was for a bit not too long ago and then went back down.

POP3 is funky, my password is not being recognized.

HTTP seems to be back, but mail and my MySQL database are still broken (both don't recognize my passwords), which is really irritating me because my blog is now useless, and that's the only part of my domain that draws regular visitors...

Wanted to add that things are working for me now. I did submit a ticket, and the password recognition issue for email was solved. We'll see what happens overnight and through tomorrow.
