I have set up my ip address as an access host, and have tried a few different programs to connect, like navicat, and excel, but none of them can acess mysql via my pc. has anyone else tried to do this and been successful. if so, i would really like to hear...

    its a mystery, as i can connect to mysql via putty, but i cant connect using any sql clients such as navicat...

    When you use Putty you are not connecting to MySQL per se. You are connecting to the system and then running MySQL locally on that machine. Putty gets you something like a remote DOS window/Windows command prompt on your server. Its the same a opening a dos prompt on your computer and running the mySQL commands (if you have MySQL installed on your local computer) from there, except you are working with your server at that point.

    If you are looking for a graphical interface to remotely administer MySQL, take a look at MyCC http://www.mysql.com/products/mysqlcc/
