This is a discussion on Apache log file location in the Shared & Semi-Dedicated forum

I haven't searched for an answer here, so let me just add that I have the same problem.

Yes, you can no longer see /usr/local with jailshell. so you can't get to the logs files.

Yet another disappointment with this switch.

Were there more logs there than the ones you can download from the control panel 'download raw access logs' button?

Downloading a huge log and a quick grep are two totally different things.

    Eh, why?

I'm not particularly please by the fact that it comes in download flavour only (it's .gz), as I would rather open it straight away and work on, but the file size is only a few kB's. If you're viewing it through SSH then AFAIK the same amounts of bits needs to travel over your connection (possibly more because you miss the gzip).

Please explain if I'm missing something here.

While in a SSH session I can easily grep or view the logs whether in a script or manually. It's particularly helpful for me to find out if an IP had viewed or attempted to view a URL within an immediate given period.

You can still download raw logs through Cpanel.
