    mod_rewrite

I am playing with the idea of using mod_rewrite but am not sure what effect it would have on the server load.

I intend to use it for my message board - which has between 200,000 and 300,000 page views a month.

Combined with a new cms I am about to start using, I imagine about 450,000 page views a month would be realistic.

Can anybody tell me if it would cause any problems with slowdown?

    Thanks,
    Tony

I think if your rules are reasonable and well written it would not be a problem. I have however seen a simple few liner mod_rewrite rules bring a server down fast. If you have a test machine or can test on your home machine I recommend you try that first.

If you have no problems then give it a shot. You may want to open a ticket and let the techs know your about to try it so if a load issue does pop up they dont have to go troubleshooting to find the cause.
