kind of breaks the stride doesn't it?

Any update on carbon would be helpful.
if anyone gets a reply from support on this please post it here
from jag support:
The server your domains are hosted went down and had to be rebooted. All the services are back up
and running now and your domain is working fine too. We apologize for all inconvenience caused to
you due to this.
when someone from jag sees this can they shed any more light?
LoL! My site has 'crashed' every night for the last week or more, usually between 2AM - 4AM. Veena gets me going again. Most of it has been MySQL related, although the server occasionally just hangs. Most of you ppl are probably asleep when this sort of stuff happens, so you probably aren't aware of it...

Wow, down every night. I know you don't care, but I feel bad for the others on your server. What server are you on Vin? I want to avoid it when I add my next site.
Neutron. It used to be great, but now it's like one of the worst. I don't know what happened, but I suspect someone is running an errant crontab or something. It goes down like clockwork.
Oh, well, Veena is nice to deal with. I kind of look forward to it now...

crontabs are dangerous things
Yeah, so are .htaccess files. LoL! Mine is 6k now. That freaked Veena...
A lot of JagPC clients are enamored by these sort of things. That's why they come here in the first place. Their old host didn't allow these things. It's like the moth and the flame, or children playing with matches, or an accident waiting to happen; take your pick.
I don't know how many clients are on a server at JagPC. At some of these cheap web hosts, like PowWeb, they put 1000 web sites on each server. All it takes is one fart to stink up the place.![]()

They only put a few hundred on a server
I think that Jag should require a review of crontab scripts and such.
Thank you! That was my suggestion to Veena...Originally posted by mattsiegman

Get a life, people. You can't expect any hosting client to be a first class programmerAdmins should just learn to log everything.
I don't! I expect 'my' server to be down several times a day. That's the reality of the situation. I guess the point is, nobody should be surpised that 'their' web site is down for two hours with no explanation from JagPC. It happens all the time. It's SOP in a shared server environment.Originally posted by gerilya

If you're paying 115 bones a month for a dedicated machine, then you got a right to bitch. At $7.95/mo you gotta expect these things...

To Vin DSL:
As far as customer care is concerned, having service unavaliable for two hours without explanation from a service provider is not-so-good service in my book. This has nothing to do with the technical side of a problem, btw.
As far as technical side is concerned, there are ways to locate and eliminate problems in shared environment. Servers are not supposed to be completely down. The load can get high and some services might not be available at all times, but the situation that you describe looks much more like the same problem hitting your server again and again rather than having several unrelated problems - on the daily basis yet. This just gets me back to my point: Admins should just learn to log everything... and learn to read the logs afterwards![]()
