Do I have to redirect first?

My site was activated 21 hours ago. I uploaded my files ( making sure to install and index.html in www). When I attempted to test my site by addressing the numeric domain, I was directed to a holder. The holder in not in any of my directories.

Also, when tried to view the pages through the control panel, my graphics were missing. Off-site graphics were fine but those in my graphics directory were missing which indicates to me the numeric domain is pointing somewhere other than the "Missing Pageholder" in my www directory.

Do I have to redirect my domain before I can test the site?
(Doesn't make sense to me) or am I just being impatient and need to wait for the numbers to be pointed to my directory instead of the holder?

This is the first host I have used who is using Apache and I feel really dumb. lol

Um... 'www' is a sym-link. You should be putting your files in 'public_html'. The files are probably ending up in the same place. Never tried doing that before. Anyway, upload them to .../home/'account name'/public_html/... and see what happens.

No need to feel dumb. Vin is right you need to upload files to the
    public_hmtl folder.

I don't think this has anything to do with Apache. Its the way Jag
is set up. I have had host in the past that were using Apache, and
you uploaded files to the www folder. However, that was a long time ago
so Jags setup may be standard now.

I'm not a tech person but as I understand it when you upload to the
public_html folder, the files are duplicated in the www folder.

Since you uploaded to the www folder it appears that the files are
not duplicated in the public_htlm folder.

    Thanks

Thanks all, I tried it all and then submitted a ticket. Support sent me the complete url path... something they didn't do with my activation notice because that is usually handled by the system when the domain is resolved. Leave it up to me to make things difficult..hehe

By the way, thanks for the speedy responses, they are greatly appreciated.

Did you sign up for the v100 plan by any chance? If so, then you don't have a dedicated IP and you won't be able to browse your site until you switch your DNS servers.

www is a symbolic link to public_html. It is similar to a shortcut in Windows or Mac--essentially it is a file that points to another. Unix symbolic links are more powerful than Windows shortcuts, but the idea is similar. So, www and public_html can be used interchangably to upload files because www is, essentially, just a nickname for public_html.

If you aren't on the v100 plan, then your site may be misconfigured and you short open a support ticket to point it out to support. To do that, log in to the clients section from the JPC homepage (you'll probably need to use your full domain name as your username and your sites password).
