    Creating Filter

    Hello,

I am running a mailing list and there are a dozen bounces a day that accumulate in my catchall account. When the emails are sent out I use a specific email address in the header and the bounces show that email address.

My question is how can I have the server send emails with my sending address in the header to a specific account rather then to the catchall account or rather then delete them?

    Thanks

Do you have a pop account set up for the address you are using as the from address in the email? If so, the errors should be going there. If you don't then they'll go to the catch all.

An alternative would be to set an "Errors-to" header in the message if you want the errors to go somewhere other than the "From" address.

    From: sender@yourdomain.com
    To: yourlist@yourdomain.com
    Subject: Hello everyone
    Errors-to: errors@yourdomain.com

    Your message goes here...

    Hello,

I am using a mailing program called Mojo Mail - a cgi script. The mailing address I use is a yahoo address but the bounces return to the catchall on the server I am sending from.

    Thanks

I've never used mojo mail, but with most mailing list software one of two things (or both) tends to happen. Either this mail is leaving the list with the list set as the sender, or the errors-to header is set to the list address. Mailing list software tends to try to control error messages so that the list admin knows what addresses are bad as opposed to the sender. If the sender isn't the admin, there is very little he can do with the error message--he can't disable bad addresses. Likewise, if the admin deosn't get the bad address warnings, he has no way of knowing about errors and will continue to send messages to bad addresses, wasting bandwidth.

Check your software for some place to set the default error address. If you can't find one, you mihgt have to make a minor (one line most likely) hack to the script.

    Hello,

    The header shows "Errors-To: myaddress@yahoo.com"

However, it still returns through the server it is sent through in the catchall account.

    Thanks
