Bandwidth theft (follow-up)

About a month ago I posted a couple of notes about having my bandwidth stolen (for no purpose that I was ever able to discern).

Thanks to a pointer from support and a couple of websites I learned how to modify my .htaccess file to block the offenders and bandwidth siphons in general. My bandwidth usage is back to its humble norm.

Bandwidth theft can lead to sites ultimately shutting down:

I was afraid I'd be shutting down (affecting only me since it is a personal site, not a portal).

Since I don't have any files and only a very few pictures as far as I could understand my logs someone was simply polling my site repeatedly. I've never been able to decide if it was simple malice (perhaps offended my my sexuality or atheism pages) or if it served some arcane purpose.
