UPLOAD SPEEDS - have they deteriorated?

I have a cable broadband connection and on my speed tests at dsl reports I usually get around 1.7 to 1.8 mbps download and about 235kbps to 270 kbps upload and those speeds correspond to what I am able to get in actual transfers on other servers - but I'm not even getting close to my upload speeds on neon

Lately I noticed (pretty hard not to notice when one can go out for breakfast, have some coffee and then a snack while waiting for a few mb's to upload on neon) My uploads to neon are now running consistently at about 32kbps to 35kbps - Did Jaguar toss out the T1's in favor of 56k modems or what??

I realize that the speed should vary depending how busy things are but this has been very consistent regardless of hour or day that I'm transfering.

I'm using the same ftp program with the same settings that I've always used and uploads seem to have slowed down significantly almost to a crawl - is there a glitch in the system - or is 30 to 35 kbps what I can now expect for uploads ?? Sure hope that whatever the problem is whether its neon or on my end it can be resolved.

It may just be net congestion...

I haven't noticed any major slowdowns, but the largest files I upload are around 50k...

No I don't think it is congestion - I've been sending some large files anywhere from 5 to 50 mb at a time to a friend using one of my ftp sites and the speed for the past week that I've been trying to get all this stuff transferred has been consistently slow.

Before that I wasn't transfering anything large just stuff for my web site so didn't really notice but an upload of 30 - 35 kbps is pretty dismal.

thanks for the reply perhaps one of the Jag personnel can give me a more definitive answer as to whether this is what I can expect from neon or the problem is elsewhere.

If I get time tonight I'll try some uploads on a couple of friends sites or a test newsgroup and see what kind of speed I get there.

I don't think you're looking for anecdotal information, but for what it's worth, my upload/download speeds have always been dismal here. I don't get anywhere near 30-35K. I'm on metered enter-level DSL here at the house and I usually get 27K up/down day, night, weekends, rain or shine on most sites. On JagPC, I've always gotten 5-15K. I assumed they were metering the bandwidth (like my ISP does) in some way so somebody with a download site doesn't screw it up for 1000 other customers. Who knows?

I'll try it on DS3 later this week, when things calm down at work. It usually does 7M up 'n' down on a 'hooked up' site. It's something to behold, believe me...

LoL! I know you're just being sarcastic, but I ran 56-gay for a long time. With a good connection, up/down is about 5-6K...

    Goodnight Gracie

roflmtfo - quack - (tfo)=tail feathers off -- A preemtive definition thus reducing the necessity for further inquiries.

The use of such a device (56k tel connection) is totally abhorant to this duck. The Duck rejects even the possibility of such an occurance and would have to reject it as a possible option. Should there be no other option the Duck would have to reject the internet and return to the ancient art of reading material on a printed page.

The existence of all life forms throughout the COSMOS are figments of the Ducks immagination. Therefore if the Duck should decide that the internet is no longer a valid hallucination which warrants the space dedicated to it in his often neurotic occasionally psychotic memory banks, it's existence would also no longer continue for all other immaginary life forms.

I deny creating this reply. I deny this denial. Furthermore I deny my existence and therfore your own becomes very questionable.

    Say Goodnight George

upload speeds in excess of 1+mbps should be possible, we achieve it all the time when downloading files to a particular server. Maybe open a ticket about slow upload speeds so we can check your server. It may be stuck in half duplex or some other nutty nic or network issue at play.

Thanks much for the reply Greg. I'll run a couple of tests this evening including an upload test on another server to make sure that the problem is not on my end such as the nutty nic you mentioned (funny you should mention that) after comCOST took over attbi I had to change cable modems and my dl speed dropped like a rock - after two days of blaming it on the new modem and going through one test after another turned out that somehow knocked the nic loose and though functioning it did so at it's own rather reluctant pace - reset it and speed went from dl of 250kbps to 1.7mbps.

If my tests show its not on my end I'll send a ticket in.

One more thing incase you check out this thread again - I'm having trouble with a php script - I left a message in that forum and so far lots of views but no response. Recently past couple weeks if I remember correctly you either switched servers or did big time maintenance on Neon - since then my script no longer works - Is it possible that a module was not reinstalled at that time??

If I don't get a response from here or the other forum in the next day or two I'll send a ticket also.
