Was this forum just rolled back?

A short while ago, there was a thread from coalman, to which I replied, then JPC-Masood replied, about the PM function not working.

That appears to be fixed, but the thread's gone, as well as other posts over the last few hours, as well as a profile change I made.

Can I assume that the forum had to be rolled back as part of the fix?

Not an issue, nor a complaint. Just curious.

Well, at least we know that someone at JPC now knows at least a teensy bit how it feels to have to rollback a change after a screwup during a tested upgrade by JPC.

Oh, wait: Masood's announcement doesn't exactly say it was tested, just that it was rolled out and looked fine until customers reported issues, along with a promise to fully test next time. HEY! That's exactly how they approached the complex-wide Apache upgrade that hosed me!

Just curious; why didn't JAG wait until Friday night to do this? I'm told most people prefer upgrades to happen when there's no staff sufficient staff around to help.

You guys just can't seem to catch a break lately, huh?
    Good luck

Well, it is good that the problem was reported and the forum was able to be rolled back. I remember one time I did an upgrade to an SMF forum, and it failed miserably, and my backup was corrupted!!! So I had to use a secondary backup from 3 months before, aghhhhhh!!! Lost 3 months of stuff.

SMF is a good forum, if you don't use any mods. I had like 15 mods, and every time you upgrade, you have to uninstall all the mods, and uninstalling all the mods is a horrible process cause they will not cleanly uninstall all the time. (one mod interferes with another, etc)

Thats why I like vbulletin, all ya have to do is disable your mods, and not uninstall them. Works like a charm. And I never had one mod interfere with another, luckily.

Well, I guess that's mutual now, isn't it? In fact, it was in a PM I made to Les on 9/30/2011 where I said

I'm a sick/tired old man who doesn't want to spend a boatload of time managing the technical back end of the sites, and I just can't seem to catch a break lately. Why does every upgrade have to bite ME in the butt? The php5 upgrade, then the php handler problem due to the original php5 upgrade, the network throttle issue, now this one.
and then the upgrades were postponed for internal discussions. THEN when you did the upgrade you guys hosed me again anyway. Completed on a Friday afternoon @3:30. ...and nobody around to support it when the issues were found.

You guys can't catch a break from me. Hilarious.
    Good luck

I want to thank Masood for quickly restoring the forum. I know that some may say that of course it is his job. But, sometimes a simple courtesy or congratulations can really make you want to stay in the game and come up with the winning play. Cheers to Masood. Now we can PM into the A.M.

How about instead of praise someone be held accountable for a screwup and be chastised for a faulty rollout in the first place? Should I be thankful that after two days my forum was functional again after an Apache upgrade?

You really seem not to be thinking like a customer.

This problem perfectly exemplifies the problem I had. No process, no procedure. Just fly by the seat of the pants, fix it if it breaks.

Les says you're taking note of this and fixing it.

Seems like the exact same behavior to me.
    Good luck
