Colocation means your rent space and bandwidth in Jags Facility, but provide your own server

Dedicated means you rent everything from jag.

Might look at the VPS plans as well.

ohh 1U and 2U are sever case sizes,

this is a 1U server chassis

    Yep, exactly!

Why would someone want to do this? As an example, at one time, in the little town where I live, the only Internet access available was dial-up. However, my ISP told me I could bring my web server down to their facilities and they would plug it into their T1 line. That's colo...

In this case, JagPC is hooked up solid to the backbone of the web, so if you went the colo route, you could send them your server, and they would stick it in a breadrack, or whatever, and away you would go, with a top-notch connection!

The height of servers (= how much rackspace they take) is measured in standard units. A space conscious server is 1 or 2u, a really big heavy machine 4 or 6u.

    Hrm...

That poses an interesting question! Will JagPC only colo standard sized rack servers, albeit 1u-7u, or will they colo breadrack servers too? Never thought about it. I just assumed they would colo anything, regardless of physical size.

So, which is it? Anybody know?

We will consider hosting just about any size server. We charge by the "U" so it really doesn't matter. If someone sends in a regular tower case and it's short enough, we can put it on it's side, which usually takes up 4U plus 1U for a shelf to put it on.

Hmm. I guess I won't consider colocating my "Ubercalc 1024 vacuum tube gold edition" then.

You can always try the approach of trying to fit 2 standard atx cases side by side using say 6-7 U would be cheaper
