I suppose you guys have some specific reason[s] for using FTP, but if you not, why not switch to SSH/SCP?

Being a vps I dont think the main machine would be a factor but rather your ftp client or your vps ftp server config.

Well, this problem was solved that very same day. Apparently, another client on the machine had some processes that were locking up the entire machine. The techie (I think it was Masood) told me that he would monitor that client to ensure it didn't happen again.

I'm not quite sure what machine I'm on, but it would be neat to find out

Because I have no clue on how to use SSH. I do use Putty every now and then to fire up the shoutcast server or to do little things. Other than those insignificant things, I'm lost in the SSH jungle.

This GUI makes SSH/SCP as simple to use as FTP via Cute FTP, WS_FTP, FTP Voyager, et cetera...

I very seldom use SSH/SCP via CLI, and when I do I use a PuTTY window inside WinSCP, so it's a 'one-stop-shopping' kind of solution. Highly recommended! I don't even have a FTP client installed on this machine right now...

Heh! Yes, I debated whether to say that. I actually did add that point to the end of the original post, but decided to delete it. I didn't want it to obfuscate the larger point that SSH/SCP is just as simple to use as plain ol' unsecure FTP, if you use a GUI interface.

If ppl had to run FTP from CLI, nobody would have a clue about it either...

I was using IE since my BPFTP expired a while ago.

I'll give a try to Vins client. I have some time to spare. Thanks!

Log in to CPanel and look in the top left orner of the menu page. Your site name and server name will both be displayed there.

It is very helpful to know your machine name so that you can be ready for downtime or other problems when they are announced here in the boards

Just realized that this is in the VPS section, so the CP (if you're using CP) server name will reflect your VPS instance's name and not the actual server name. I assume the server name is in the Virtuoso (sp?) control panel somewhere, though.

It's actually not anywhere that I can find in the control panels. But Daiver's on Apollo according to the trace routes on the site in the sig.

Yeah, I'm on Apollo. Now that I remember, my sites were down during the "disaster".
