I understand the VPS concept and the advantages it would give me over a reseller account. But what advantages, if any, are there for getting a reseller account over a VPS account?
Well, it depends on the type of reseller account. If you get a managed reseller plan then JPC does most of the work for you--you just sell plans and support your clients.
You are probably asking about the bulk reseller plans, though. With those you have to assume a little more responsibility, but the server itself is still completly managed by JPC. You get the ability to set the size and features of the plans that you offer, but you can't control the software on the server in any way.
On the VPS plans you get full control over everything as if you were running your own server. You control the OS, the software, the control pannel, etc., so there is a bit more management involved (JPC still supports you, though). An advantage of VPS is that if you want to offer a service that JPC does not offer on their servers (such as Apache Tomcat, for example), you can. VPSs aren't restricted to reselling, either. If you need the extra storage space, processing power, security of an isolated filesystem, or a special feature but you don't need a full dedicated server than a VPS would be perfect.
