unmetered or metered for existing account?

Just curious, how does this new unmetered vps plan going to affect existing accounts? i cant find any metered vps plan at jagpc website anymore. are we still on metered but uncapped connection or we have been automatically switched to unmetered capped account? So far have not heard anything regarding this matter.

    Anyone?

All accounts will be switched to the unmetered method but no previous accounts have been switched yet. We want to make sure they remain unaffected by any changes so it will be weeks or months still before anything is done. You will be notifed when the change happens and it will not affect you in a negative manner. The only ones affected will be the ones who already are blasting over their bandwidth limits. Ie those who had a 300 gig limit and using 6-800 gig (yes we have a few) may or may not be affected. Because of the metering they would be allowed to use that much gig under the new unmetered method, they just couldnt use it all at once. As it is now they are hit with overage charges .

One more note: Because we have not completed our testing and monitoring of the changes on past clients we have not made a final decision on this, hence the absence of an annoucement.

No. The unmetered method will definitely affect us. Our connection speed will be capped to 1, 2 or 3mbps (depend on plan). Since signed up until now we have never used up allocated bandwidth. The most was about 10-20% of the allocated bandwidth. i believe that there are account holders like us, use the vps for business purpose, who prefer speed over amount of bandwidth. This capped unmetered bandwidth is definitely going to affect us a lot since the speed is no more as fast as before. We signed up because jagpc position itself as a premium bandiwidth hosting provider. it is the connection reliability and speed that attracted us.

I would really like to see an alternative here as well. Burstable bandwidth is all the rave ;o

Our monthly usage is incredibly low - at the end of the day if something like a remote server backup bottlenecks the pipe, that's no good for our clients.

PS Mike, if you haven't revisited jaguarpc's sales pages yet it's 2mbps of freedom plan

from my experience with the unmetered plan, its not detremintal to performance- seems its burstable.

i apparently have 2mbps unmeterered, but hit 4-5mbit without issues when using a download manager or backing up offsite.

    trust me, it benefits us!

cool, I'm a few hours into it, so I'll trust you and give it a chance. I have to admit it was a complete surprise the VPS wasn't in the houston DC, but 30ms away in atlanta.

Well I have to admit I have just asked to be switched to a metered plan (like some of you I want speed and I am never likely to go over the 250Gb limit thats now in place on the uncapped plan)

I also have to say I like the fact we have the option of choosing just by asking for one or the other, a big thumbs up to JPC in my book

IF the port is uncapped in term of speed, ie you choose full port 100 mbps speeds, you are capped at 250 GB bandwidth per month, at least thats what I was told.

    I'm fairly new around here.
I see this thread is from 2006 but current VPS plans show a bandwidth quota.
What happened to "All accounts will be switched to the unmetered method"?

Thats a good question, I never caught this thread. I know that JPC stopped offering unmetered VPSs a while back, I was lucky enough to get 2 before they stopped but this would be great to have back.

I hate the terms metered and unmetered, they are so confusing.
I feel that "unmetered" gives the impression that you can have as much as you want with no maximum speed, which was never the case.
How about total capped vs throughput capped?
    Or metered vs throttled?

At one time they were offering it either way. I wonder if you can still talk to sales and ask for a throttled (or unmetered ) plan?
    Good luck
