Since you have full control over waht happens on yoour VPS, the call is up to you. If you want to make the switch I'm sure support will help you out, you'll just need to open a ticket and ask.
I don't believe their are plans to force the change on VPS users.

No, we wont do this to vps accounts. Not everyone runs a website or hosting in their vps anyhow. A vps is perfect for testing and coding things, crashing stuff, etc.
