    vps email problems

I think I have the same problem, my ticket went to sales by accident, I have a major email problem, here is the jist of it from the ticket:

    Ticket#:2279994

think there is a problem with Cpanel and centos and pop3, if it is a cpanel program problem you'll need to contact cpanel support for me since you have the license, anyway here is the
problem, if I add an email account using the mail manager in cpanel, cpanel says its created, but it won't let me login, for example, I created admin@hostingforchristians.net with a password of baby then I used the autoconfig to setup outlook express, it said successful, but when i checked the mail, it said bad password, i even telneted in manually to check it out to see if its was the program or the pop3 server, the pop3 didn't recognize the name either.

I also checked it out on another account, victory-fwb-ministry.org using test@victory-fwb-ministry.org but it didn't work either.

I'm also not getting unrouted mail to the default address like i should.

I never had a problem like this before so I don't know if I did something, or centos or cpanel is having a problem. But according to the mail log I should of had a lot of messages sent to the default mailbox, I have no idea where they are stored there is nothing in the que either.

Anyway, could you look into it and figure out what went wrong somewhere, I just checked and now I am getting undeliverable messages even to the main account hfc stating that the recipient could not be verified, if you can't figure out whats wrong (or what I did wrong, maybe you can point me in the right direction.

Also, cpanel missed creating about 4 directories when fantastico was installed, I got that info from the fantastico site and got that to work, I don't know if it's me or the operating system, but if we need to switch to another one to get everything to work right it's no big deal.

    Thanks for your help,
    Lee

Hmm... me thinks its either a pebcak error, network error, cpane;/whm error or centos error (or maybe a combination of them !)

Hopefully they will figure it out.
I just realized something; people who complain that nobody never talks to them, evidently has never ran Linux.

Sorry i must have missed something, same problem as who ? you created a new topic, so i don't know to whom you are refering.

Are you sure the username you use for the pop3 settings is correct ? and not just the name infront of the @ ?

    Kind regards,
    Patrick

Tech support said it was a DNS propigation error, my mail isn't being routed
and I don't think cpanel is really creating the accounts, I know the main
email is simply your cpanel username and password but then subsequent
    accounts are <email_address>@yourdomain.ext

The server name should be mail.yourdomain.ext

I've created the accounts from cpanel, but if I ssh into the server, I see no accounts created even though cpanel says it created the accounts, then
when I try to login to one of the extra email accounts, all I get is bad username password.

I really don't know whats going on

Anybody know where created email accounts are supposed to be stored
    with cpanel and centos?

    Hi Lee

I had the same problem. Here's what I did.
Leave off the mail from mail.yourdomain.com in your email client and it should work.
I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce..

Cpanel creates user mail accounts inside the home directory of the account. The path would be soemthing like this:

    /home/USERNAME/mail/DOMAIN.COM/EMAILUSER

    Where...
    USERNAME is the Cpanel username
DOMAIN.COM is the domain name (main or parked/multihosted) on which you created the account
EMAILUSER is the username of the new email account (ie the part before the @ sign).

Inside of EMAILUSER you may see several files, such as Inbox, send-main, spam, etc. These are the individual folders that are created when you use IMAP or webmail to access the account. If you are looking for new mail, look inside the Inbox file. The format should be apparant if there are messages in it.
