Exclamation Sites down, but VZPP shows they are running

Early this morning, all of my websites went down, but the VZPP showed the server was running fine, I even restarted it three times.
But I was not able to connect to the server, either using the IP, or by accessing any of my websites. Also could not connect using shell or FTP

Is this a problem I can fix if it happens again? (using the VZPP -- perhaps some configuration that won't let the internet contact my server?)

Awaiting reply for the support ticket to see what the deal was, but everything is working fine right now.

I forgotten where it is, but there is a setting to restart any failed services automaGically (not a spelling error)

It sounds as if apache might have been at fault, although if these were forum or database type sites it might have been MySql.

These are only guesses though, I think you need to ask support (who I have had tremendous support from)

That is a very odd problem, do you have a control-panel, and was this unreachable as well ? (i.e. cpanel?)

    Thanks for the responses,

I'm glad to be on Jag as well. I just wish this kind of thing does not happen.
Makes me nervous, you know, I have paying customers and can't afford to have my site down at all. The good news is that my mail still came through even while the server was down (normally it would bounce).

My CP was unreachable as well.
The only thing I was able to access was the VZPP, and it said the server was running fine, checked all the processes, and as I said, even stopped and started it a few times. Which, in theory, would have reset everything.

It was not until some time after the third restart (30+ minutes) that the site started to come online, but the services that used MySQL were not working. So I performed a Restart, and fifteen minutes later, everything was working properly.

But, I did just get a response from support.
They said that they normally make backups of the servers twice a week, but they found that disk space was at a hundred percent. (???), so they deleted the old backups and managed to reclaim the disk.

well your living in a fanasty land as it is, Unless you have your site on more than 1 box, and do a round robin, there is no way you will have 100% uptime. Hardware WILL fail, services WILL fail, routers WILL fail

it is not a matter of IF, it is matter of WHEN.

that is with ANY host JPC uses better quality products so the failures are rare, and when they occur it is handeled very fast, but it does occur, that is a fact of life and cant be changed
