Can you help move website to my new VPS?

I' ve been trying to move my website from old shared hosting server to my new VPS@JaguarPC. Since the size of my website is about 900MB, it looks like it will take a long time to complete this moving. I'm wondering if JaguarPC support team can help me move. You can download the zipped website from my FTP, unzip, and then transfer it to my new VPS?

    thanks,

    IVYtony

First off, it you want to ask support for this you need to ask support, not the forums. http://www.jaguarpc.com/clients/ <-- submit a ticket

But you can do it yourself, and people here can walk you through it

first off, is your VPS running cpanel, interworx, or some other control panel? is so the transfer can be very simple, as most control panels have transfer functions built in.

If you use cPanel you can create backup of your old site direct to your new VPS. When you create cPanel backup just specify ftp sever of your VPS as destination.

I wait for setup and I also hope that I can expect assistance of support when moving.

Er... I think this is a function of WHM, but assuming you have cPanel/WHM at both locations, yes, you could do this yourself. If not, I'm sure JagPC could get together with the old provider and move you, using this method.

Anyway, having been here a while, I have seen lots of threads thanking JagPC for moving sites for ppl, so I'm sure there would be no problem doing this, assuming the account at your old host is still accessible, e.g. not suspended or whatever.

    thanks

Do you have shell access at your old host?

login on SSH on your vps, connect to the ftp of your old through the ftp command, like ftp oldhost.domain.tld (or IP or such) and then use get.

If for some reason the command ftp does nothing. (If it works it should give you a new row of ftp>) you might have to call it by its location, I use Fedora Core 4 so for me it would be: /usr/bin/ftp differnt Linux flaviours might place it in another directory.

Are you saying that you have a ZIPed version of the site on your current site? If so, you can use the command line of your VPS to ftp to the other machine and transfer that zip. You;ll also need to be sure you have the proper unzipping tool on your VPS. If you old server is a Unix-variant then the zip is probably a .tar.gz program. Your VPS likely has both tar and gzip installed, so it should be able to unpack the archives just fine.

Since you say you have a cPanel site, you should be able to generate a backup of your site with cPanel. Just log in to cPanel from your VPS command line with lynx (a command-line browser) and download the home directory backup.

Unfortunately you probably won't be able to use any automatic restore features of Direct Admin since your backups were created with a different panel. You may even have to do some rearranging once you get your backups unzipped if direct admin sets things up differently than cPanel (I've neve rused Direct Admin).

If you open a support ticket, though, support will help you out with the move. You'll need to ask them directly (through a ticket) and provide the username and password of the old account.
