    Can Not connect to database

    I need assistance please....
First let me state that I am a computer idiot and know almost nothing about how this program works. Jag. was chosen to host my site by someone else which I have no contact with any longer ... so I am in the dark about how to fix my problem.
First I visited my shopping cart today and found the following message...
FPRIVATE "TYPE=PICT;ALT= Warning "Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/all-thin/public_html/shop/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file..... Then after this message was on the screen for 10 seconds it disappeared and the shopping cart downloaded with this same message at the top of the page.

My problem is I tried to go to cPanel to see if I could change the setting as the warning message requested and did make a change to the My SQLDatabase> "Grant permissions on a MySQL database to a MySQL user ". I unchecked the box which said "All" . After I did that I also try "locking the table".....
Now I can not access my shopping cart. I get the message .... "Unable to connect to database server"!

Can someone please tell me how to get reconnect and also resolve the issue pertaining to the original 'Warring Message' stated above.

    Thank you kindly,

The original message you describe had nothing to do with the database. You managed to screw that up all by yourself.

Let's start there. Your shopping cart needs access to the database. Presumably it used the username for that from which you removed "all" rights. Best go back in there and grant those rights again. If you tick "ALL", that includes the right to "LOCK TABLES"; so all will do just fine. Once you've done this you should be back where you started: your cart should work again, but with the warning up top.

Now that warning. Presumably, it means exactly what it says: the webserver shouldn't be able to alter that file, so permission to do that should be revoked. I think you'd best drop that error message in a ticket and have support handle that for you. They should be able to do so easily, despite a few catches on the way.

About those catches: last time I tried (which granted is a while ago) the file manager from cPanel screwed up when I tried to set file permissions. Also, I think this happening now might be a result of the server he is on changing from mod_php to php cgi. The file is no doubt owned by his own user. Now under the new set-up, would that automatically imply that his scripts can write to it? If so, is there any way around this, other than having support lock both the webserver and yourself out?

Thank you Sir for the reply and assistance and "YES" I did create the data base disconnect problem and if I understand your direction and hopefuly implemented them correctly then the problem should be corrected...but the problem is not corrected and so I either do not understand what you are asking me to do or there is some problem concerning the changes which are being made at Jag. The original warning message only occurred within the last couple of days because there was no warning 3 days ago for sure....so I do not know what is happening about that but for now I still can not connect to the data base! Thanks.

Do you have more than one MySQL user in cPanel? If so, do you remember which one it was? If you don't remember, you'll have to find that info in the configuration file(s) of your shopping card.

Have you tried a ticket to support yet? Quite probably they can fix both things for you in no time, simply because they can go into your account and see for themselves.
