    Making Resellers and Security

    Hi,

This week I got a VPS from JP and have some questions about moving/security.

    Some background:
Last week my reseller account with another host, along with all the reseller accounts on that server were hacked and defaced. After the lack of support and being keep in the dark about what happened I decided it was time for I got a new host. Saw some info about Jaguar PC and decided it was time to get a VPS.

    The questions:

I want to create 2 reseller accounts, one for my personal sites, and another one for my portfolio and client sites. I want my personal sites to have SSH access and my client sites not to.

A question about this: If one of my personal sites was hacked on Reseller 1, will the sites on Reseller 2 be compromised?

Also: If I got 3 IPs when I signed up, one for the VPS and 2 for use on the sites. Can I use the 2 IPs for setting 2 reseller account DNS? Or should I get 2 extra IPs.

I'm sorry if this sound confusing, but after getting hacked I'm a little paranoid.

    Hello there!

If you are creating reseller accounts from within your control panel, lets say WHM/cpanel and your VPS gets compromised then this could effect all sites that reside on your system.

Maybe you could go for 2 smaller VPS plans and ask jag to put them on seperate systems (i am sure they would be able to do this).

Beef up your systems security with the various tweeks and firewalls which are recommended on this forum.

What i tend to do with name servers is setup generic domain names for example: ns1.yourservername.com and ns2.yourservername.com and this might be something you would be intrested in doing.

On a side note, you have root control of your system. I would not recommend enabling shell on your individual "personal sites" unless absolutely necessary.

I followed some of the security mesures on the forums, but the truth is I'm overwhelmed, I don't understand how to do some of the things they ask for.

Also I dont know how to create reseller accounts.

Which control panel have you gone with?

    Cool.

Just thinking out loud that as you have a VPS you have gone a step further on the ladder and there isn't really any need for you to create reseller accounts that you are going to log into - you have full control but for your reference...

I am guessing you have added an to your WHM already so...

On WHM when you are logged in as root click the link which is under "Resellers" called Reseller Center.

You will be presented with a screen which will allow you to "Add Reseller Privileges" to the domain name of your choice.

Select your domain name from the drop down list and untick "Make the new reseller own their own account" then click "ok".

Go back to the page by clicking on the link in the WMH side bar and then you will see under Reseller Modifications you will have your sites domain name in a form box. Click on "Edit Privileges/Nameservers".

This page allows you to setup various options for your reseller accounts including setting up name servers.

So I first must add the domain as I would do a regular domain, and then upgrade the privileges? Is that right?
