    Site Issues

My sites seem to have a problem with consuming memory usage, as well as other things. I haven't been able to figure out the problem, if any. Um... my sites aren't even that big, yet they consume a good amount. However, I was told by a JaguarPC rep that I'm doing fine with my plan and that things seem to be alright. However, I don't think that's the case.

I would like to stay with you guys, but at the same time, I would like to know what I need to do to improve my sites' performance.

Is there any way you can help me figure out any problems in my sites? I mean... even if I have to upgrade certain features, I'm fine with that. I'm just really frustrated. I want some answers, that's all.

    Thanks.

What exactly are the issues you're seeing? If you provide some more information about your site and the problem(s) you're seeing, and maybe a sample link or two, then maybe some of us can make some suggestions.

Well, for starters, http://www.finalfantasy13.org tends to go down once in a while. Um... I sometimes get 100% CPU usage according to the Virtuozzo details. My memory usage is over 40% as of now, according to WHM.

I am running 2 topsites lists:

    http://www.squareapex.com/topsites
    http://www.finalfantasy13.org/topsites

I am also running image galleries that are based on PHP (thumbnails are automatically made from larger images):

    i.e. http://www.squareapex.com/ff7/aeris-dies.php

I just wanted to know if a staff member can find out if either one of the scripts is causing a problem?

I'll try and think of some more issues.

I don't know about your site's performance, looks fine to me. But the images you are placing next to your AdSense block on this page
    http://www.squareapex.com/ff7/aeris-dies.php
are quite questionable in terms of the AdSense ToS.

IMO, you may not draw attention to your ads in this manner, and you may be kicked out of AdSense if it's wrong and they catch you. This is just my interpretation of the rules, feel free to email AdSense support and send them the URL and ask them if it's OK. If you do, then let me know what they say!

EDIT: I see you do the same thing on all your sites. Good luck, and let me know what they say.

Been an Internet Marketer and making a substantial amount from adsense i can assure you there is nothing wrong with images next to your adds. I personally use this tactic on a lot of my sites and have seen a huge rise in CTR.

This has been cleared with google adsense and is not in violation of any of their TOS.

    Hopew this clears things up

I didn't come here to discuss AdSense and their TOS.

Anyway, http://www.finalfantasy13.org is down AGAIN, as we speak.

EDIT: Now it's back up. Why does it keep doing this?

Yeah, it's about that CTR. The advertisers don't want people who think they are clicking to see more about a particular face accidentally clicking on their ads .

So it'll be ok if I put an image file next to my ads that has a big flashing arrow pointing at the ads? Or how about a rotating .gif with sexy women's faces? Maybe flash the whole Iframe border? You think that'd be ok?

Just wondering where you think the line is.

@Ron - I apologize if I came on too hard. I didn't mean it, really. I'm just frustrated with everything.

To answer your question about the images, I think it's okay to put images, as long as you don't give your viewer a reason to click the ad. For example, don't put big arrows or anything that says "click here," "visit our sponsors," or anything of that nature. I could be wrong though.

If your using Adsense on all those pages I wonder if that could be the problem? I know using Google Analytics can cause problems with how quickly a page loads.

But I mean... it shouldn't cause that much memory?! Plus, my sites aren't even that big to begin with.

Heh, personally, I'd look at the gallery script that makes thumbnails. You should look into a gallery script that caches the thumbnails somewhere so it doesn't have to remake them each time. Image processing takes significant processing power. Considering how many images you have, this is very likely part of the problem. Another possiblity is to reduce the number of thumbnails per page.

The topsites script *could* be causing a small part of the problem, especially if someone is trying to spam their site and inflate their ranking.

You would want to look and see which part of your site gets the most traffic, and if there is anything that uses significant resource on that particular part of the site, try to optimize. For example, if you topsite scripts get 90% of the activity on your site, I'd say take a look at them and see if anybody else has experienced load problems w/ that script.

I can't really think of anything else given the info I have.

To be honest, I'm so lost with this, and I wish someone could just check things out for me before I lose it!!! It's driving me UP THE WALL!!!

Omar, I think someone should point out this forum is not a support area, most of us are simply Jaguar customers, just like you.

There are some JPC staff that OCCASIONALLY post on the forums, but the forums are not the place to get tech support, thats what the ticket system is for.

I know you may not want to hear this, but if you want someone from JPC to check your VPS out you have to ask them via that ticket system, NOT on these forums, that is not what they are here for.

    HI Omar,
I checked on your VPS and you have been hitting a few of your QOS limits and this is causing your site to appear to die. I was able to raise some of the limits but I did note that you are also hitting your memory limit a handfull of times. Obviously if you can optimize your scripts/code thats the best route otherwise if you still have problems you would want to upgrade your VPS to a package with more RAM or start thinking about a dedicated server.
