Assistance in finishing move to new server

I've been on Apollo (aka Appalling) for a month, with FTP and other back office functions going down every five minutes until I have had enough.

JaguarPC Support kindly offered to move me to a new server, Sirius, in "several hours", also requiring me to update my custom nameservers.

    That was twelve hours ago.

They moved me to a new server six hours late and dumped me with the admonition:

    "2006-10-23 / 04:49:39
    Hi,

Your VPS has been transfered to new hardware node sirius.nocdirect.com. Your new IP's are pasted below.

    69.73.188.146
    69.73.188.147
    69.73.188.148

IP 69.73.188.146 is your VPS main IP whereas remaining two IP's are for your nameservers. You will need to change the IP's of all domain hosted on your VPS from WHM.

Let us know if you need further assistance. "

I quickly changed the custom nameservers for the account and then went to log into WHM in cPanel...it told me:

    Unactivated License File

So I cannot update the nameserver ips or the A records from WHM.

Can anyone help me determine the proper entries for the hosts and resolvers files in /etc should be here? A way to determine the localhosts ip setting on Sirius?

They haven't answered a trouble ticket in 5 hours and it looks like I need to get around the fact that they've dumped me with no WHM.

Any help would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know of a reputable hosting company I can take whatever clients I have left to when this nightmare is over?

    I've tried to run
    # /usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt
to activate cPanel on the ip, and it simply confirms that the ip isn't registered.
I need another way to get my entries made, other than cPanel.

change the .db files from named with SSH (not sure how this will effect CPanel though as I dont use a controlpanel), but I'm pretty sure we dont have the same OS so I can't direct you to where they are located on your system. they are located at /var/named/chroot/var/named on fedora core 4

Alex...thanks, but the directory scheme doesn't exist. I do have /var/named, where I can see my client's records and note that they are all pointed to the old server ip address. While I can change the server ip, I do not know the local-host address on this server to update that as well.

All of this could be resolved if JaguarPC could answer my question posted over six hours ago.

I've found the .db files and changed the nameserver account and updated the dns and the primary and ftp, and then changed one of the accounts' ip to correspond with what they gave me, but it still does not resolve.

But thanks, again, for your kind assistance.

You can't rely on the forums for Jag support. You will need to update your support ticket if you haven't already.

the .db records look like this:

    ; cPanel 10
    ; Zone file for aurorasingers.org
    $TTL 14400
    @ 86400 IN SOA ns1.dcihostserver.com. pclancy.qwest.net. (
    2006091501 ; serial, todays date+todays
    86400 ; refresh, seconds
    7200 ; retry, seconds
    3600000 ; expire, seconds
    86400 ) ; minimum, seconds

    aurorasingers.org. 86400 IN NS ns1.dcihostserver.com.
    aurorasingers.org. 86400 IN NS ns2.dcihostserver.com.

    aurorasingers.org. IN A 69.73.188.146

    localhost.aurorasingers.org. IN A 127.0.0.1

    aurorasingers.org. IN MX 0 aurorasingers.org.

    mail IN CNAME aurorasingers.org.
    www IN CNAME aurorasingers.org.
    ftp IN A 69.73.188.146

it's the localhost A record that I don't know what the proper IP setting should be...I also don't know how this will effect overall operability even if I make the change.

Thanks, Connie. As my original post indicated, I had been waiting five hours for a response when I made the post. It's been over six now, and evidently, LUCKY FOR ME, it's no longer the weekend so my support ticket should get some attention....whenever.

I know the situation is getting a lot of attention from my clients...

    Thanks for the thoughtful encouragement.

You'd think that if you stuck with JaguarPC despite some ridiculous QoS issues, and they said they could resolve them and move a site "in several hours" that they wouldn't just leave you hanging out to dry with no localhost ip definition and all of your customers twisting in the wind.

But you'd be wrong to think that. Clearly, this firm cannot perform a move, make sure the cPanel provisioned is actually licensed and then complete the process by giving you all of the correct parameters to update.

Juxtapose that to their glowing sales claims. What a disappointment.

I am now coming up...14 hours later.

Thank you Veena and Cecilia. Anyone planning a VPS move?

Allow 24 hours no matter what anyone tells you.

As I posted in another thread yesterday, I do think MOVING accounts is something JagPC gravely underestimates and needs to put more effort into. This even more so because it is mainly they who want to be able to shuffle us clients around when a server turns out too crowded after a while - we'd prolly be happier if they just started out with larger safety margins..

Other than that they're pretty solid though.

    Defently unexeptible in my opinion

Was 8 hours (aparently drawn at 12 am JPC time) late with my payment though so I should probebly not be the one to complain

Perhaps we need a forum entry that discusses the processes and timetable for a realistic move. For instance, the instruction for a cPanel move included this note from support:

"You will need to change the IP's of all domain hosted on your VPS from WHM."

That hardly covers it...and while most of us know what to do on general installations, a move raises some interesting issues, only one of which is that you have to go to LIST ACCOUNTS and manually update the ip address for each individual client on the VPS to the new main IP. You have nameserver ips to delete, A records to add and more...

I thank everyone who contributed, even if only to commiserate, on this thread...
