I have only had my VPS for 4 days. I have Brute Force Detection installed and it has already blocked 7 attacking IPs.
Is this normal?
Thanks.

Yes. That is fairly normal.
I've had 82 notifications of BFD since my VPS was set up at the end of May. I've also missed some when the mail server configuration was wrong. There have been 8 attempts so far this month.
It's a good idea to make sure your passwords (especially for root) are not words that might appear in the dictionary. They should be some combination of numbers and letters.
Cheers.

And consider changing your passwords every few months. Kind of a pain, but less hassel than recovering from hacks.
