I've been using gmail for two of my domains for a few months now. The only problems I encounter are legacy calls to SMTP servers, and occassionally PHP applications that try to send directly from the server.

The calendars and stuff are nice, but I like the fact that I can check my accounts through a google link, rather than have my work see my personal domains in the log files. At home, I just use Outlook and the transition, after a short delay, has been transparent.

So, when using gmail for a domain, all scripts that sends email from the server using that domain fails?

My site use several scripts to send email notifications to members. This is implemented using PHP and cron. I have a couple of domain; site.org and site.net, and I have signed up for "Google Apps for your domain" using the first one (site.org). Must I change the sender address in the cron jobs to something other than name[at]site.org?

I don't think you'll have to change the addresses, but you will have to use the PHP mail function instead of SMTP. I've been doing this without problem. Google also tracks mail you've sent through the domain, so you have a log of that as well.

I have just activated Google Apps for my domain, and verified that the cron jobs still are able to send emails
