    Server down for hours

My server was down for approximately 5 hours tonight going by the last post in my forums.

Isn't there a way JaguarPC can know if a server has gone down? I could not even get to the WHM. I was at work the entire time and the time the server was down was unacceptable.

Maybe they were in mourning for the passing of Anna Nicole...

    hexonxonx,

I do not see any vz servers went down today, it may be a problem on your vps alone. Please open a support ticket so we can assist you.

It was already taken care of Veena, within 5 minutes of opening the ticket the server was running again. I'm just asking if there was any way for JaguarPC to have known the server was down for so many hours? All the regular people on the site have verified that it was down for several hours.

    Was it a DNS issue?

you need to find out what is causing it,

If the WHOLE NODE, is down then talk to JPC, if just your VPS is jammed up, then it is YOPUR job to find out what is causing the lockup, something YOU have installed is causing it on YOUR part of the node

I'm thinking it was due to the emergency maintenance they had to do on the server. They sent me two emails saying they woulld be doing this and they would have to reboot. When the server came back up, my VPS didn't start up, both times they said it was in the stopped state.

One other time, they had to reboot the server but mine didn't restart, they had to restart it.

so my question to support then would be the following

"I am noticing every time the node restarts my VPS does not start properly, why?"

    has this question been asked?

go to support with "my vps does not work" is NOT helpful, and they will not know of your previous issues , you not the only VPS at jag

I don't know what kind of monitoring JPC does of individual VPS instances, if anything. They'll know if an entire node goes down, but I doubt they ping every VPS instance regularly--with so many instances and such a diverse range of services running across all of them it would be quite difficult to catch evey possible outage on individual VPS instances.

A number of clients here use Host-Tracker.com to monitor their sites. Host Tracker checks your site from multiple locations at an interval you specify (up to every minute) and sends you an email whenever there is a problem. It is a good tool for checking your HTTP (and overall server) uptime and will give you timely notice if and when your site goes down.

    Truth in advertising!

Why don't you setup an account at HostTracker, and put it in your sig, like I do?

    There's NO disputing that, right?

I have a 99.68% uptime, over the last 453 days @ JagPC, including 10 hours downtime when they kicked me off Platinum for using too many resources...

    This place rocks!!!

I, personally, have a hard time believing your claim, without some hard proof...

Look, I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I've been having an ongoing battle with Qwest, the last month or so...

One or another of their edge routers has been going out on a regular basis -- every night or two -- leaving me with NO access to about half the web -- really -- such as Yahoo! and a lot of other places. I've just been lucky that Atlanta (JagPC) hasn't been one of them, so far.

Perhaps you, and some of your regular users, are having a similar problem, no?

Koreans have been trying to bring down the Internet for the last month or so, which just happens to coincide with the problems I've been having... otherwise, I would be ripping Qwest a 'new one'!

    Anyway, try HostTracker...
