VPS Optimisation

Is there any way to optimise a VPS package?

Currently I have the starter package, its running 2 small forums, both with less than 500 members and only 40 users per day average. I've had the package for about 6 months and it was running fine up until the start of January.

Now however the server is painfully slow, going to a site takes about 30 seconds for it to respond. There is a lot of lag in ssh, but my ping to the server is 35ms.

the current load average is

 16:35:19  up 4 days, 14:47,  1 user,  load average: 0.48, 0.61, 0.65

I've seen it rise up to 2 or even 3 occasionally. Also, the memory usage seems very high...

I was previously hosted on an Athlon 1Ghz dedicated server with only 256MB RAM. Loads were never this high before. Could this be something to do with the shared/guarenteed RAM issue?

It's really hard to tell what the problem could be without taking a look inside your VPS. Could you open a support ticket with your VPS ID (and a reference to this ticket), then we will investigate this for you. Please also describe what exactly is loading/running slowly. Any examples will greatly help us in the investigation.
