Self Signed SSL certs

Hi,

Ive been wondering for ages how you create an ssl cert thats self signed - a bit like the secure ports of cpanel/whm/webmail. Ive tried a few things but cant get anything to work, any ideas anyone?

You can configure it under WHM.

yer but thats for the /cpanel, /whm, /webmail extensions? Im after a self signed cert LIKE these extensions on a domain, for example, ssl.domain.com. Is this possible, if so, how is it done?

Hi Jonny,

There is no such thing as a self signed certificate really. Basically what happens is that the server does enable SSL for a specific host, but no actual SSL certificate is installed. That way it is able to communicate through SSL, just not with a certificate.

Since certificates are pretty cheap, it's probably worth ordering a certificate, otherwise your clients would see a warning message every time they load the SSL content.
