Has the nameserver been set up?

    Hi,
I had signed up for a VPS account recently.

    However, few questions:
    1. Has the nameserver been set up when we sign up for the account?
    2. I have changed the DNS at the domain registar more than 24 hours ago but the domain still points to the old server (which is a jaguarpc account).

I am very confused and frustrated, especially that my site has been down for quite some time. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

    Thanks!

When you get a VPS, aren't you responsible for running your own nameserver?
    Good luck

I have done the changes and 'set up' with my domain registar. However, the account information e-mails says that

'DNS has been set on your VPS to the above Nameservers corresponding to your Primary Domain. You need to setup these nameservers with your domain name registrar
to point to the Secondary and Tertiary IP as listed at the top of this email. '

However, until now, there is no changes to the dns ip address. Therefore, would like to know more and find out the reason why.

    Thanks!

I think Masood would be best to explain this if it's not already in a post here. I haven't seen one.

I think you need to set up a nameserver on your VPS, although that email seems to suggest that one is running already? You need to name them as something like ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com. You need to assign one of your IPS to ns1.yourdomain.com and the second to ns2.yourdomain.com. Then you need to point your domain name at ns1.yourdomain.com andns2.yourdomain.com.

Like I said, it would be really cool if someone from tech support could write a step-by-step manual showing you what needs to be done to get a standard vanilla DNS setup working on your VPS or dedicated server. Maybe they give you that in your welcome email.
    Good luck

Thanks Ron, you have been great and wow! fast in replying the threads.

Actually, that's why I am rather confused about.

The e-mail suggested that it has been set up, and I did the changes at my domain registar side to update the new ip, poitning to the nameservers. However, I am not certain whether it has been done at the server side. However, I had set the MX record and the new ns (but I am not sure is this correct or sufficient)
