I moved your post here to the dedicated section and I edited it. I deleted the part that contained the entire ticket.
In short you had a voyager with managed service and had hardware failure. We can not predict nor prevent a hard drive from going bad. Im sorry you experienced this but it happens. Managed service does not prevent hard drives from failing. Managed service is not a backup solution. We do offer backups if you wish to subscribe to them.
Im sorry you had this hardware failure and anything we can do to help you prepare or recover please let us know. If you dont have a backup addon service already I highly recommend it and have for years.

We already have a backup solution for VPS and Dedicated servers which is described in my Complete Guide to Backups.
Yeah thats because you insist on keeping windoze on it![]()
Yes, you have, and so have I... and everyone else... here and elsewhere... even since I can remember!
Backup, Backup, Backup!!! Do it yourself! Maintain your own backups...
Don't assume anybody is doing backups for you, even if you ARE paying for addon services!
I could point to numerous threads in these forums, stating this over-n-over -=- many by Jag himself.
Hopefully, radicalman, you have a backup somewhere. I keep backups on my LAN, here at the house. I have every backup I've ever done, going back to 1996. You (and everyone else) should do the same...![]()

Our backups have improved 10 fold in the last few months since we started using cdp enterprise . Its expensive but it just plain works wonders. The problem isnt we failed to backup something or lost it or they were corrupt. In this case the client just didnt have a backup service addon for their server.![]()

Sorry, not casting aspersions! I'm just saying, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."
If YOU maintain your own backups, regardless... you're covered, no matter what!
In this case, the client didn't have a backup service addon, or an emergency backup plan. Oh, well...
Sorry for being cold-hearted, but I suppose it's a lesson for all of us, yes?

i actually know how radicalman feels, when you rent hosting space you expect that the hosting space is backed up, like you would when you rent a car and you expect it to be insured. Ofcourse some will argue that budget hosting shouldn't include backups.
Anyway, i also learned by hard way that i need to keep my own backups, so now thats what i'm doing. This means that part of my monthly bandwidth is consumed by my backups but thats the price i have to pay to keep personal backups.

I find that analogy to be flawd. We're not talking about budget hosting here, like renting some small "consumer proof" package, but a dedicated server. In car rental terms that's not renting a car for the weekend expecting that to be all in, but going to the dealer to lease a brand new one, custom made for you with all the options you carefully pick (or leave out).
However, it's IMHO also up to the car seller to make you aware of the risks your taking when you decide to do without a spare tire. Then, if you have the dealer do the maintenance for you too, it is up to the maintenance departement to wonder out loud when they don't see that spare present during the tune ups. So, on such a managed server, I would hope JagPC enquires directly about backups at least once. Was this done? I'd hope it's standard practice.
